Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting

Present Board Members:  Chairperson, Rich Norkun; Vice Chairperson, John Wright; Len Heroux, Daniel Roy, Tim Adams, Deb McKinney.  Also present Director, Ruth Plummer; Program Coordinator, Shawn Mullen 
 
Call To Order:  Rich Norkun called to order the May 3, 2011 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.   
 
Approval of the minutes of the April 5, 2011 regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:  John Wright motioned to approve the minutes of the April 5, 2011 Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Len Heroux seconded the motion.  All approved (6-0).

Communications 
- Sears Park Facility Requests 
 
 
The advisory board reviewed the facility requests.  Shawn Mullen will make the phone calls to the applicants.   
 
Director’s Report:  Ruth Plummer gave her Director’s Report.  Everyone has a copy.   
 
Unfinished Business 
- Governor William O’Neil Amphitheater update 
 
 
Only 3 engineering firms have submitted proposals from the RFP for engineering and design services.  The Parks and Recreation Department and Facility Services are working with the State how to best proceed with the project.   
- Discuss options for a Rotary Park and Soccer Club fields 
 
 
The Parks and Recreation Department is working with Ken Barber who represents the Rotary Club and Soccer Club on identifying and leasing a piece of town owned property to be developed into soccer fields and a park.  Ken Barber spoke to the Advisory Board on the topic.  John Wright motioned that the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board support this process.  Len Heroux seconded the motion.  All approved (6-0).   
Nothing has changed on this.   
- Air Line Trail extension to Main Street update
 
 
Engineering firm Anchor Engineering has been chosen and awarded the contract for the design of the Air Line Trail State Park extension. A STEEP grant will fund this project.   
 
New Business. 
- Discussion on banning smoking in Sears Park  
 
 
Ruth Plummer will look at the ordinance for Sears Park and make a recommendation at the next meeting.
